Art exists because we cannot duplicate nature. Beyond our ability to reproduce biologically, the best we can do is to represent the natural world we find ourselves in. However, this can do several ways, but I’m assuming you’re talking about visual art, so this would be a visual representation of nature. What we’ve learned over the centuries, though, is that there isn’t just one way to represent nature.

You can depict it realistically in a detailed fashion or describe it in a less accurate but more immersive, realistic manner. You can paint it in a less than realistic yet still presentable way that tells a story or expresses things in nature we don’t immediately see. Also, you can depict it in a schematic way that speaks about life in terms of abstract forms, colors, movements, and what have you. The most conceptual of art talk about nature in a roundabout way since we are all a part of life, and all of our creations are part of our natural functioning.

What Is The Purpose?

The purpose of art is to communicate. Early forms are ways of communicating mythology and cultural traditions. As our culture grew, it develops into new forms of communication. Sometimes, it was meant to convey the wealth and power of those commissioning it. However, the artist always ends up communicating other things about the world we live in and our humanity directly through their creative depiction of people, places, and things.

The innate desire drags us to create something meaningful, either to a specific person, everyone as a whole, or merely the artist themselves. The meaning of art decoration is wholly subjective but lies the value that it can communicate things that regular communication and visual. It can describe feelings, an individual’s personalities, and specific ideas that challenge what we think we know about the world. It is unique and vital as it provides the spark for plans, meaningful expressions, and visual explorations.

What Is Art?

Art can be in pretty much any form, but that doesn’t mean that just any kind is art. It has tried to fulfill its purpose and communicate something in visual terms. This can make judging whether something is artistic difficult, since we may not know what some piece of art is trying to communicate. Even when we think someone’s trying to describe one thing, they may be attempting to say something else entirely. However, if you engage yourself fully in looking at enough art, you can form your sense of what is meaningful and make those judgments yourself, and compare them with what other people think to build a better opinion.

The best place to go through is usually the mouth of the artist. Whenever they say “this thing I have created is art,” they can generally tell what their intention is behind it. In non-concrete terms, though, art is what makes life interesting. It is what makes things worth looking at for more than a second. It is what gives things meaning beyond simple utility. Besides, it lets us talk about ideas that can’t express in words. In that respect, it is one of the most critical aspects of human activity.
